OXYGEN 7.3 – What’s new?

27/11/2024 | General, OXYGEN Software

We are excited to announce the release of OXYGEN 7.3, which brings a range of powerful new features and improvements to our intuitive measurement software. This update includes everything from refined usability improvements to advanced calculation tools, new instruments, and more. Dive into the details below and experience OXYGEN 7.3 for yourself!

New Features

The latest OXYGEN upgrade introduces Modal Shape Animation, which allows you to display modal shapes based on the modal test measurement results. This feature includes a new modal test instrument (①) with a variety of visualization options (②), including:

  • Selection of excitation points for targeted data visualization
  • Frequency specification: frequencies or select directly from the spectrum analyzer
  • Deflection animation: Choose between displaying continuous deflection animation or maximum deflection
  • speed and scaling for precise control of visual output

The modal test instrument is integrated into the standard modal template. Modal shape animation is available across LIVE, REC, and PLAY modes for flexibility in data review.

Power Extensions

OXYGEN 7.3 introduces two powerful new extensions for advanced power calculations:

1. Efficiency Calculations for Externally Excited Synchronous Machines

The latest update introduces a dedicated Machine Excitation section (①) within the Efficiency tab of the advanced power settings, allowing for precise efficiency calculations in externally excited synchronous machines. Here, you can specify excitation voltage and current to automatically calculate machine excitation voltage (U_exc), current (I_exc), and power (P_exc). These new channels can be accessed in the Machine Excitation tab (②).

Note: This feature requires the OXY-OPT-POWER-ADV option.

2. Rolling Computation for DC Channels

Rolling Computation calculations now extend to DC channels, generating new channels that appear under the DC tab and are labeled with _rc (e.g., U[i]_DC_rc, I[i]_DC_rc, P[i]_DC_rc).

Note: All Rolling Computation features require the OXY-OPT-POWER-EXPERT option.

GPS Plot – Color Trail

The GPS Plot instrument now includes a Color Trail feature, allowing GPS trails (①) to dynamically change color based on the amplitude of a specified channel (e.g., velocity, acceleration, altitude). The 4th assigned channel in the GPS Plot automatically serves as the reference for the color trail’s amplitude. Within the instrument properties (②), you can customize the color, as well as set upper and lower amplitude limits.

Important note: The first three assigned channels need to be Latitude, Longitude, and Heading.

FFT Enhancements

The OXYGEN 7.3 update introduces two significant enhancements to FFT functionality, providing greater flexibility in frequency analysis.

1. Overall Average FFT

You can now calculate an energetically averaged FFT over the entire measurement duration, from measurement start to measurement end. To enable this feature:

  • Use the “Enable overall average channel” (①) slider in the FFT Output Channels
  • This creates a new channel, FFT_Avg, which updates continuously during recording. However, only the last valid spectrum is stored in the *.dmd file as a single value channel.
  • The FFT_Avg channel resets automatically at the start of each measurement.

Note: The channels FFT_Avg and FFT_Amp share the same amplitude scaling.

2. FFT for Selected Recorder Region

Easily calculate the FFT of a specific signal segment between the A/B cursors.

Requirements:

  1. Ensure that at least one Recorder or Chart Recorder and one Spectrum Analyzer are displayed on the same screen.
  2. Set the Recorder’s time axis link mode to Instrument on page.
  3. Enable Link to Recorder Cursors in the Spectrum Analyzer’s Instrument Properties (①).

Once the A/B cursors are activated in the Recorder, the Spectrum Analyzer will display the FFT for the selected signal segment. Note that the channels in Recorder and Spectrum Analyzer can be different. This feature is supported in LIVE (Freeze), REC (Déjà View), and PLAY mode, enabling the analysis of signals both during the measurement and during post-processing.

Percentile Calculation

This software update introduces Percentile Measurement channels, designed to calculate the threshold value that is exceeded by x% of values during the entire measurement period. These channels are found within the Advanced Math channels. At channel creation, you can freely define a single or multiple percentile levels.

Key Features:

  • Applicable to both synchronous and asynchronous time-domain channels and arrays.
  • Updates continuously during recording, but only the last valid value is stored in the *.dmd file as a single-value channel.

New SCPI Commands

Our latest update expands SCPI command options, enhancing export configuration capabilities. Below is a list of the new commands:

  • :EXPort:ITEMS:AVAILable? Queries all channels that are available for export
  • :EXPort:ITEMS[:LIST] Specifies a list of multiple channels for export
  • :EXPort:ITEMS[:LIST]? Queries the selected export channels.
  • :EXPort:ITEMS:ADD Adds specified channels to the export list.
  • :EXPort:ITEMS:DELete Removes specified channels from the export list.
  • :EXPort:ITEMS:CLEar Clears export channels list.

For detailed syntax and usage, refer to the SCPI Technical Reference manual.

EtherCAT Extension

Measurement range and unit information of transferred channels will be saved in *.esi-file as <Comment>. This information can be read by the EtherCAT host and passed through Beckhoff EtherCAT configuration tools for *.eni-file generation.

Further Improvements

In addition to the above-mentioned major updates, OXYGEN 7.3 introduces several minor but valuable enhancements to improve usability and customization:

① Option to hide Fundamental Values in Power Instrument

Easily activate or deactivate the “Show fundamental channels” within the Power instrument to show or hide fundamental values in the power table.

② Option to create multiple formulas at once

Save time by creating multiple formulas simultaneously.

③ Option to change the physical units in multiples to/ by 1000

Configure sensor units more efficiently with the ability to switch between physical unit scales for voltage, current, and resistance. This feature supports the following options:

  • Voltage              [mV], [V], [kV], [MV]
  • Current              [µA], [mA], [A]
  • Resistance         [Ω], [kΩ], [MΩ]
